horde: a journal of poetry & ideas is a safe space for poets and poetry. Devised by Michael Balili & Paolo Manalo, we aim to include unpublished and original poems by Filipino authors, here and abroad, that surprise, challenge, and engage the contemporary imagination and discourse.
Dearest friends and friends we haven’t yet met:
This project started out with us wanting space for poetry in the long lockdown, from people whose work we liked. If given a chance we would collect them and their new works in a folio and hang out with them one evening for a poetry reading night.
With ISSUE #0, we envision horde to be a venue for poetry of all forms and shapes managed by different editors per issue. We start this from nothing. Here is our souvenir from a terrible year.

ISSUE EDITORS
Paolo Manalo (top hat, barong tagalog) is the author of Happily Ever Ek-ek (Gacha Press) and Jolography Retconned (UP Press). Paolo has received fellowships from the UP National Writers Workshop, the Taboan Writers Festival, and the MacDowell Colony. He teaches English, literature, and creative writing at UP-Diliman. 😹 Michael Balili (viking hat, happi) is the author of Velocirupture (Gacha Press). His poems have appeared in jubilat, Magma Poetry, & elsewhere. He designs books for Sentro ng Wikang Filipino – UP Diliman.
COVER ARTIST
Bheng Densing is a creative director with fifteen years of collective work in the advertising industry for both multinational and local agencies, a musician with professional outputs broadcasted in mainstream media and personal albums released in digital platforms, and an illustrator with works published as part of the ASEAN Illustration Award 2017/2018.
